Case Histories - Data Management

Project: Environmental Data Management System Software

Client: Honeywell

Objectives: honeywell.png

  • To develop a database to centralize data pertaining to material usage rates, air emissions, waste water chemistry data, energy usage and waste production.

Outcomes:

  • Material usage rates and emissions will be efficiently managed and tracked.
  • Software will provide documentation necessary for ISO14000 certification

Key Aspects:

  • Ability to develop material usage and emission rates by stack, by room or by facility.
  • Linked to MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) system to obtain material compositions, volatility etc.
  • Centralization of data currently stored in several formats and locations.

Project Description:

This project was initiated due to the need to keep close track of material usage and emission rates at the facility.  A detailed emission inventory was undertaken, however, updating the inventory would require considerable work. The new software will be database driven and will greatly reduce the effort involved with emission inventory updates. In addition to air emission data, the software will also store and track other types of environmental data and therefore creates a central environmental data repository.

Conclusion:

Honeywell has decided that the need to keep their environmental data up to date has warranted the up front cost of implementing a data management system.  Once the system is in place, effort involved in future data management will be greatly reduced.  Lastly, having a data management system in place will provide much of the documentation necessary for both internal and external regulators.
